An interview with the Baracuta brand Consultant ‘Kevin Stone’ on ‘Project 137’
Why is it called project 137?
“The 137 project is inspired by our date of inception 1937, its a project collaboration with our own heritage. The brand has a rich history of collaborating with some of the best brands in the world such as Comme Des Garcon, Stussy, Griffin, b Store, Margaret Howell and has continued to make its flagship G9 in the UK.”
“We wanted to combine all of our collaborating elements with a unique project. The 137 project continues into AW with 137 footwear made in Northampton and 2 new styles working with Harris Tweed who by the way are celebrating their 100th anniversary.”
What is so special about the ‘project 137’ collection?
“It is made in England in our factory and Limited Edition of only 137 pieces made of each style/colour using British Millerain fabrics.”
What does the Baracuta brand mean today?
“When you work with a brand that next year will be 75 years old its great to look back into the archive for insparation, but at Baracuta we have a modernist attitude and look forwards as well as dipping into our heritage.”
“I feel that the next 5 years are going to be massive for the brand, we have a great following (thanks to all our customers and the cool retailers who support us) and that the brand will expand its line and also its coverage especially in the States.”
“One of the brands great attributes is that it has a wide appeal and has trancended both music, film and style over 7 decades and thus its hard to pigeon hole exactly what it means, for me personally its effortlessly cool that doesn’t take itself too seriously.”
What’s next for Baracuta?
“AW11 is looking great. The theme is ”awaydays” and we have had a fantastic reaction since launching it last week.”
“We have a further collaboration with the very nice boys at b Store - its a personal favourite store, brand and a rather exclusive collaboration with a top tailor.”
